is this brocolli or a weed? I realised this is a very daft question but this is my first year of growing brocolli and i have no idea what it looks like when it first starts out. the planter they are growing in is completely weed free except for the thing in the photo, which is roughly in the same area as where i put the brocolli seeds.

brilliant! thanks Nicky, its good to know i havent screwed that one up. its odd i didnt spot the little weed until i took the photo but he got plucked out straight away.

Just a point, it may be a helpful to the plant (most brassicas) if the stems are burried deeper, or in the case of the already planted ones, maybe earthed up a little. This will lessen the chance of them rocking in the wind or falling over whn taller. Up to or slightly above there first set of leaves is what i do with no bad consequences
