My lovely Incarvillea delavii seems to have set seed (well there are pods anyway!) Has anyone tried raising these from seed?

Yes, dead easy. Fresh seed germinates best, No special treatment needed. Also saved seed and sowed in Spring. That germinated ok too.

Fantastic, thank you. Can't wait for it to ripen now!

I grew some from seed and they were indeed easy but mine have not flowered yet, oh well, maybe next year. Will they survive the winter outside? I have conflicting information about how hardy they might be.... Sorry to ask a question on your thread Steragram, I hope you don't mind.

Hi, I delavayi, is a tap rooted perennial, fully hardy, but if you sow the seed in autumn, you should protect the seedlings from frost, Derek.

Lynne of course I don't mind. I'm a worse offender than anybody. Mine has survived the winter but it was a very mild one and they tend to be milder here than in many places. Derek thank you for the info. I had thought it was a tuber rather than a chunky tap root. I was reading the other day about the explorer who found this plant and now its even more special considering what he went through to find it!

Thanks all. I thought it was a tuber too which was why I was wondering about the hardiness. I have a few so I think I'll go 50/50 and see what happens, I must google the explorer, it sounds interesting!

I only have the one - wait until the seeds grow...
Owdboggy, did you plant out the autumn sown seed straight away or keep the m in pots over the winter?

If anyone still has this question live, just letting you know that after months of having given them up altogether they are suddenly appearing - just shows you should never give up on seeds!

Thank you for all the help.
