Is calcium spray effective against slugs?

Answers

Not that I am aware of.

It would help them build strong bones( if they had any). Lol. My poor attempt at humor aside, try sprinkling diamotaceous earth around your plants. You can also make a beer trap by digging a hole and placing in it a container with verticle sides. Backfill the outside of the container with dirt so it is at ground level and fill it half way up with beer. The remainder of the beer can be poured all the way down you know who. Finally you can go on night patrol and pick them off by hand. You probably know of the methods I just mentioned but in case you did not, I thought that I would make you aware of them.

I'd never heard of calcium spray for slugs, so I was curious enough to Google the subject. It appears that Grazers G2 Slug and Snail spray (hopefully there's a concentrate available now) IS effective - you spray the plants and the pests leave them alone, BUT, you do have to respray frequently, I think its fortnightly. The main ingredient in the spray is calcium chloride in solution. I've never tried it, so can't say for sure, but there's an online blog from someone who tested it, and unless its fluke, it did appear to work while it was being used properly.

Oh, Bob, I can't tell you how much you made me smile, and how many pithy responses are in my head to your 'my son won't let me...' comment. One of my sons prefers me to sit in the corner and play the dumb old lady - I've never complied yet and I'm certainly not about to start now, lol! It really is quite amazing how they can turn into strict 'parent' figures as they, and we get older...
