Hi, grown carrots from seedlings planted early spring, so far 12"/14" tops, 2" carrots, sandy soil & peat regular watering .planted onions mixed with carrots to see off carrot fly should they arrive cannot remember what name but picture was nice long carrots what have I done wrong?

What do you mean grown from seedlings? Did you sow them in seed trays first, then plant out. If so, you'll never get a decent carrot.
Maincrop carrots sown normally take a good 3 months to reach maturity. If yours were sown that way, you are getting them up to early.
