Runner beans do not grow deep roots, 50cm would be a maximum - normally a lot less. When your beans have finished producing pods remove the stems but leave the roots in the ground so that the nitrogen in the nodules can return to the soil, then simply dig them in.

not so deep but aproxx 50 cm but its always down to how big the plant is and quality of soil.
