If daffodil bulbs do not sprout in the first year is there any chance they will come in future years? Everything I've read is about when the leaves come but no flower, the majority of mine did not come at all. They are in grass but the bag said they were suitable for this. They were firm when planted and showed no sign of damage.

I'd certainly give them at least one more year… no one has mowed the lawn and cut the leaves off have they?

dont worry daffodils only come out when conditions are good enough so give them another year, trust me if the spring is not to bad they will come out.

Thanks! Those answers give me hope of a good display next year. I planted 140 but only about 40/60 came up. I just wasn't sure, as I know I have to leave them to wither before removing any greenery and as most didn't come up I wasn't sure if they may just rot in the ground.

Very Unlikely unless your ground has been totally waterlogged

Worth a go -Start feeding them every week for a few weeks with half strength feed.

Unusually I would not recommend this if the bulb has not put up any leaf growth…

I think I'd be inclined to complain to the supplier. I'd be very surprised if they can stay dormant a whole year and then grow.

Thanks again to all replies. I had thought I'd thrown out the label but I found it in my shed and seemingly this supplier is by appointment to Her Majesty the Queen, you'd have thought they'd have been decent. I'm from Scotland. It took me a long time to plant them so I'll be leaving them put and hope for the best. I'll update in about 11 months or so, lol, unless I'm too busy admiring all my flowers.

I have had so many daffodil bulbs that did not come up in the first year, and thought they had failed or the squirrels had dug them up, then the next year I end up with a garden full of them next year after planting new ones.

That's it exactly Alex, there's no rhyme nor reason to it!
