has anyone ever cut there phormiums back and have they grown back

Hello Hurbut, I had to cut my phormium right back last week as I thought it had died, I cut it down to about 1 foot above the ground and a few days ago I noticed some green shoots are coming up. Phormiums are quite hardy but as it was so cold this winter a lot of the growth has died.
