Phytolaca americana aka Pokeweed. The plant is poisonous and can be a bit invasive from seeds, but I like it so it stops in my garden.

Here it is an invasive weed (it is labeled as 100% invasive in the Azores), and will regrow from any part of the root that is left behind. It dies back in the winter. If you cut the top off, it grows back twice as big.

Very interesting plant, but far too big for my garden! Perhaps that's just as well if it is so invasive.
