can you keep chillies in oil can you pick them off the tree and put them straight oil or do you have to dry them first

I have just put some in oil, washed and dried, but havent used yet. Should be interesting to see if the flavour absorbed by the oil.

I have seen them just wiped clean and put straight into good quality olive oil. dont know how long they last though.
