Hello,I need some help with my jade plant

Australia Au

Hello,
I need some help with my jade plant. I think some bug is eating it. Please see attached photos. On the floor just under the leaves, i see small black dots (dropping?). Has anyone seen this before? What type of spray or insecticide can i use to treat this? Many thanks.
Regards,
Eric

The plant (Crasulla ovata) is known as Money plant over here. The droppings could be from caterpillars or moths.

Have you searched really thoroughly for the culprit(s)?
Could be something very tiny, or something exactly the same green as the leaves that's really hard to see. Perhaps something we don't have in the UK. You could try a general insecticide spray for plants for starters.
Its very sad as those leaves won't recover their good looks.
However crassulas root easily so you could take a couple of cuttings and start again. As the stem grows the damaged leaves will eventually fall and leave the new clean growth at the top. You'll have to make very sure you aren't transferring any of whatever it is to the new pot though. Just a thought.

Oh dear, that doesn't look good, does it? I have never seen anything like that on mine, and it's almost 20 years old..
As Steragram suggests, you need to do a thorough search..even if you have to get a magnifying glass to spot if it's something tiny..other than that,I would get rid of it and start again..or see if you can get a decent cutting or two..a shame though,if you can't save it..I'm not sure if you can use a spray or Insecticide,as I have never had to use them..good luck,Eric, and welcome to Goy..please let us know what the outcome is..

Thrips maybe? They are tiny, long insects hard to get rid of but there were chemicals available many years ago when I was taking care of plants in offices. The damage looks similar to what they can do.

If it's thrips, they can be controlled in a number of ways:

1. Introducing a predatory mite to gobble them up.

2. Using an insecticide.

3. Spraying the plant with a strong soap solution ( washing up liquid).

4. Using sticky traps.

Hello,
Thanks for your reply. Really appreciate your help and info. I went and spoke to my local gardening centre, they also thought it could be Thrips, or some caterpillar, and suggested i try a spray called Success (from Yates).

A couple of days after spraying, a few (dead) bugs appeared around the plant! See updated pictures. Hopefully they were the culprit :) Any idea what they are (sorry for the bad phone pictures)? Will keep monitoring in the next week or so.

Do you think the leaves will ever recover? Or should i just prune for new growth? Thanks.

Regards,
Eric

Definitely no thrips. It looks like some sort of beetle to me. I would suggest repeating spraying in 7-14 days. the chemicals usually do not kill eggs so to be on the safe side....
I am afraid that the leaves won't recover. I'd say take half of the leaves from the plant - the new growth will be healthy. When you'll get few more leaves take the remaining off so plant will look nice and healthy.

Once you eradicate whatever creatures are feasting on your plant the new growth of leaves will be ok. This might take a while but the plant will recover and you can start to pull the unsightly leaves off.

Personally, I would leave the damaged leaves on for as long as you can as they will probably still allow photosynthesis to take place and encourage new growth.
