The only way I know is back breakingly slow and not at all easy BUT here goes!
Using a lawn edger (A straight sided spade) cut out and remove the turf from the damaged area. Break up the soil where it has been compacted and level off. (It's also a good idea to add some feed at this stage!) then replace the turfs and roll level.
