It should be fine to use as a fertilizer. I put all the flower heads that I dead head into a net bag and keep it suspended in a water butt and use it as a liquid feed. Water it down and use it in a watering can to feed your potted plants. I suppose you could also use the vegetable matter, if you have that too to use as a mulch... Why waste it?
