If its the shrubby form, you can trim the tops of any long growths to prevent windrock over winter. Then in spring (around April or early May, depending on whether its warm or not) cut back hard to within 2 inches of old wood.

I was always ruthless pruning mine down to about 18 inches tall every spring - and it always shot away again getting to about 5 foot high every summer
