I bought two strawberry plants last year, put them into hanging baskets and just left them where they were over winter. They survived the winter and this year I took about 20 plantlets from them and put them into pots. I will probably put them into my greenhouse if I have room just to get them out of the way, but I'm sure they will have no problems surviving the winter in a sheltered spot somewhere.

just pot them up into small pots. They will usually have small roots already although some people pot them whilst still attached to the parent plant...and cut the runner after a few weeks.
