my climbing rose has developed clusters of leaves which are spiky where leaf stem would grow and has grown small buds with small pink flowers with maybe 5 spiky petals , have you any idears what it may be

I think a photograph is essential, I'm having trouble visualising what you mean from your description. Unless, that is, you're trying to describe robins pincushion....
