How do I prevent butterflies laying eggs on my vegetables

Thanks for the advice, I had covered them but obviously the mesh isn't fine enough. The little critters still managed to get in there. Will take your advise and look for a micro mesh. Thanks again

Wiping a soaked cotton wool pad to remove the eggs/tiny caterpillars also works. Prevention is best as Bilbo has said using a net to stop them laying eggs in the first place.
