mine are sometimes bitter and according to my daughter they taste just as bad as the shop bought ones. perhaps not enough water so they have concentrated the minerals in their leaves.

I agree Seaburn I prefer the Cos lettuce to eat,much sweeter, though I think I read that they bolt easily

I find both little gem and cos lettuce to bitter,
Bulba and I grow 'salad leaves' where you just pick off the leaves as you need them. A much more delicate flavour and take up less space.

Well I'm so glad it's not just me, I've never liked little gem lettuce, too bitter, but I do like cos. Even sweet gem lettuce is bitter, tho nowhere near as bad as the ordinary one.

Can you get Webbs Wonder lettuce any more. Haven't seen them in the shops for years and they were so nice.

I've not seen either Cammomile
