A little orphan tree.
Please just look at tree in the pot, ignore the background. I've just rescued this 5ft tall "tree" from a place I'm clearing. Questions are - was it worth rescuing, what is it ? And is it a fast grower ?
Second photo shows the leaves if that helps with identification. I hope the pics are there !

I don't know what it is but it's pretty! I'd keep it:)

First thought would be an elder - common 'found' tree seeds spread by birds.

the leaf isn't right for elder, they are deeply cut. It might be a philadelphus but I'm not convinced.

It looks a little bit like a climbing hydrangea, maybe a bit neglected?

Thanks for the opinions, guys, any more ?

I wonder - would a photograph of a single leaf help with identification ? And if someone could pin it down could he/she please advise me whether it's worth keeping or not. Thanks.

Hydrangea would be my guess; One that has suffered...

A Hydrangea or a Viburnum would be my guess.

I'd say philadelphus, possibly P. coronarius 'Aureus'. Any flower bud on it? Difficult whilst laying on my side on the desk to get the picture clear!

Thanks again for the replies. Just 1 last thing - shall I throw it away or is it worth keeping ? I don't have a lot of room.

Worthy1, why are you laying on your side to get the picture clear ? It's the right way up on my ipad. But thanks anyway.

And yes Tug, it has suffered. it's been squeezed in the hedge for some time.

Hard to say if you should throw it away before knowing what it is! These sideways pics seem to happen a lot with ipads, I wonder why.

Hi Sue, the tree is in a large plantpot in my home made compost. I'll hang onto it for now and see how it goes.

I'm grateful to These guys who've suggested it's an Elder, Philadelphus,Hydrangea, Viburnum etc but they don't realise I haven't a clue what they're talking about. I must find some pictures of these to "educate" myself.

How do I say thanks?
