I bought some asparagus plug plants, and I have potted them on...The question is.....do I put them into the asparagus bed at normal earth level or do I form a trench, put them in that a few inches below earth level and top up the trench as they grow...ie same as you would with crowns.Thank you

I thought you grew them on top of a trench, if you get my drift and dangled the roots down each side, but I am now asparagus grower, I just love eating it!

I thought that, they used to be sold as like a bunch of roots that was spread out over a raised row. So don't know how you would treat them this small, I believe you shouldn't pick to eat for 3 years, but from this size or larger, not sure.

I'd plant them as they are in the pots, but this coming autumn (yes, unfortunately, it is coming), after the tops have died down, mulch them well with something good and organic from the heap at the bottom of the garden, and let 'em grow on for another couple of years undisturbed, applying the mulch each year. They will take all the composted stuff you can throw at them.

Yes, i have held back planting , thinking I might put them in bigger pots, but autumn sounds like a good idea....also I have a Mole on my allotment, and he is presently searching for worms under my asparagus bed....so the little fellows might be damaged.... but thank you all
