I planted 4 allium globemasters last year, I bought them as plants from a garden centre and so I did not plant just a bulb, well you wont believe it I now have 8 plants growing and they all have the flower heads beginning to grow. I did not expect this as advise said I would just get blind ones this year. Trouble is as they get a massive flower head, they will now be too close together but I am guessing that it will be too late to spit them??? When is the right time to do this and how do I do it. Many thanks.

The same thing has happened to me Marion, I planted 1 last year and now have 2 coming up right next to each other.
Last year I ordered a variety of 80, free from a mag, and asked my gardener to plant them in groups of say 3, 5 or 7, the silly woman planted 2 lots of 15 together! not sure what to do now.... havent seen any sign of life yet

they are just like small onions. so when they have finished flowering and the foliage has died back. lift them and knock the soil off and the bulbs will come apart. replant to same depth but 4-6" apart. they are very good at bulking up.
