Got up this morning to see my 9ft cordyline wilting from about three feet upwards. What can I do? If I chop it will it carry on growing although it sprouts new leaves from the top. It has took me Four years to grow it am really angry with myself for not covering it. Although just left it other years. Any ideas?

Fractal is right..the one in my recent pics got hit by frost some years back and it sprouted from the base...:>)

I remember a large one in my parents garden in the early 80's that got badly frost damaged. The upper part of the stem/trunk went soft and the top completely collapsed. The base however was fine and it re-sprouted from the base producing three new stems. If the top has died, leave it in and see what happens though you may well have to cut the trunk back to live tissue.
Remember that it will have a large rootball so the resulting regrowth will be comparatively fast, certainly faster the putting a new one in so don't be too hasty in removing it.
