Your safest bet is to buy from the florists... Growing flowers to be in bloom for a specific day is not an easy task. You could try growing lots of little pots of flowering plants.

michaelmas daisies should be in flower by then. also if you do a succession of sowings the annual nigella [love in a mist in blue/pink shades] will provide flowers and seed pods. Cosmos may well be strutting their stuff still too.

but how many vases/and what sizes are we talking.
or a combination of both florists

I remember a friend of mine used the small pom pom dahlias for vases of flowers at his daughters wedding you could use a bit of greenery too, and of course they come in all colours to match whatever your colour theme :-)

Thanks for those ideas, I have yet to find out the finer details. I like the idea of the little pot plants as well Moongrower, any suggestions what would be good to try. I know what you mean about things maybe not coming together for the actual day so will not keep my eggs in one basket, but will have a go.

Cornflowers could work in pots as could freesia, gentians, gerbera, lavender and scabious. The aim I take it is to keep the flowers low enough that you can easily see folk across the table.

Honeymoon Tulips if you can get them at that time of year from a supplier.

Gorgeous, white, delicate, fringed flowers.

Any number of Sweet Pea's could work too.

My daughter was a bridesmaid last year when the bride collected different pretty cups and saucers from car boot sales or antiques fairs (she didn't pay more than £2.00 each) and put one on each table with roses - but you could use a large lily bloom or anything from a florist which shouldn't work out too expensive as the tea cups are quite small. She then gave them to one guest on each table.

I second that a perfect idea tea cups and saucers.

You could add oasis and fresh flower. An nice to bloom would nice to.

And then each lady could take home an orchid and put in water at home.

Good luck.

Personally I don't see the cup and saucer suggestion as being garden flowers in the centre of the table... A sherry glass with small blooms would work, or even a jam jar with ribbon tied round it.

Thanks again everyone! September seems a long time off but I`m sure it will come round quickly. I will blog if I actually manage to carry through the idea :-)

Have a look at what Gee19 did for her daughters wedding. She wrote a blog about it on 2nd October 2012. Simplicity and ease of preparation on the day is what you will be looking for. Carnations last a long time and don't wilt in the heat. They can be grown in the garden but could be mixed with shop bought flowers if they are not of a suitable quantity or quality. We'll look forward to seeing the photos.

They are beautiful aren't they. I liked the idea of different tea cups and saucers so much that I have started to collect them myself - nicer to drink tea out of than mugs.
