I have bought today a number of fruit plants, onion sets and potato tubers all for 1 pound each from the pound shop and i was wondering if anyone had any views?
I have always believed that you get what you pay and i have paid very little for quite a lot.
Kind regards, John

I've had some real bargains from pound shops, Jvt, and some disasters, too. I think you have to ask yourself a) whether (if you can actually see them) the sets/tubers/plants LOOK healthy, b) is it the right season to be buying and planting them? I don't think you get first grade products, but a good gardener can usually pull things around. Good luck, and keep us posted.

True, Gattina! The sets and tubers should be plump, firm, and heavy, and the fruit plants should have moist, pale-colored roots. Pound shops (aka "Dollar Stores", here in the States) often have old merchandise that others were unable to sell in a timely manner.

they are often smaller than other outlets but I must say I have always had good success from pound stores. So go for it and let us know how they get on.
