I have heard your advice on pruning orchids but my daughter, who lives in london, has one which I pruned, following your advice, after the flowers had finished. However the new growths towards the tops of the three stems (of four) not only have the root like things but also new leaves. Is this normal and if not what should be done?

Hi 'guest'...I haven't had this happen to my own orchids, but I have heard of it. I do believe that if you keep an eye on them, you may well be able to plant them and they will grow into new baby orchids! Not for a while yet, though - and they may not make it. I think you'll have to wait until they have developed their own roots enough. Keep your 'spray' of tepid rainwater to hand, and make sure the roots don't dry out! Good luck. I'd love to see this on mine!

Oh - and use the proper orchid 'compost' if and when you DO get to that stage!
