Can I save my tree?

United Kingdom Gb

I have a tree which I believe is a Gleditsia (though I am not 100%) and it was blown over in the bad weather yesterday. It snapped at the base just under the soil though is still attached by a small amount. If I was to prop it back up and stake it do you think there is much chance it could be saved?

Hi Julie welcome to goy- hope you like site wide range of skills interests and discussions so something to suit most tastes.Re your question - sadly your description of damage sounds terminal for the trunk of any tree.Suggest you cut off main trunk below tear and hope that new shoots may develop from existing root system. No way tree will be able to heal that damage and leaving an open wound more likely to risk infection to it.
