FOXES

London, United Kingdom

Anybody have any ideas how to keep the foxes from my garden. I have recently moved from the countryside ( somerset ) to welling Kent, and i have never seen so many foxes before. I agree they are beautiful to look at, BUT, they dig up everything i plant, they do there biz all over the garden and it stinks, they keep me up night after night arguing with each other right outside my bedroom window. They are so brazen, not at all scared of humans and are totally misplaced in the city, they belong in the country, rant , rant , rant . I have 6 ft panels all round my garden, piece of cake, they go over them like a cat would. Ive relaid my lawn twice, they just dig it up or wee all over it. PLease, any suggestions

Thanks merfyn, just got on to them and all they said was buy some spray to deter them, they offer no services to do it for me, so far ive tried moth balls, no good, and a few other deteraints, again no good. One lady i spoke to from the council said it was illegal for me to touch them, since when have this been the case, im not chasing them on horse back, Im a country boy and have no compassion for these little fury creatures, coming from a farming back ground i have seen first hand the damage they can cause, and of course i already know the real way to get rid, not sure if i can get a clear shot tho, not without taking out next doors green house lol..oh dear..here comes a can of worms my way lol

OK..just spent £40 on sprays and deteraints, il keep u posted how it works

They're a bit naughty up there aren't they? How about the Environmental Agency? Was that them you contacted, or the local council? What would they say if you said you had a Siberian Tiger in your garden I wonder? "Sorry sir, but you can't touch that - its protected you know!" I do a bit of research for you around here, and see what else can be done. Stand-by for further broadcast!

Try trapping them in a cage and then dispose of them preferably by taking the cage into the countryside and shooting the them. Unfortunately they are becoming urbanised, especially since the hunting ban.

Nah , not enviromental people, id lost hope by then lol, i contacted the local council, who quickly farmed me off to there web site. So ive sent off for some Scoot spray from a specialised dealer that works in detering foxes. I eagerly await its arrival, I might swop the Scoot for cyanide, that might do the trick lol

Wyeboy, so refreshing to hear somebody with my views and not scared to air them, but we will go to hell, you know that , dont you ? lol

18 Sep, 2009

They say if i remove the foxes, more will take over the territory and this could result in even more activity as they develope there group again. not sure abt that one myself, In a different life ,long ago, i was a game keeper, and i found a 2.43mm thru the swede was a pretty good deteraint lol

TIGER OR LION CRAP ?.FROM PORT LYMME ZOO.

18 Sep, 2009

Hey woody, explain wot you mean please

18 Sep, 2009

Deter a preditor with its preditor eh Woody? doubt Port lymp would give you any? I do hope the scoot spray works for you Tomo. The country folk used to hang them on gates and fences to deter others are you allowed to trap one these days? Try and find out what farmers do knowadays?

18 Sep, 2009

Hi Drc, i wasnt sure what woody was on abt there, but anyway, yes yer right, we used to "hang up" when i was a "keeper", not sure it would look so good having a dead fox strung up in my garden lol. I think they are still classed as vermin, so i guess you can still " control " them, as long as yer not on horses shouting Tally ho

18 Sep, 2009

As 726 stated Tomo, they are everywhere though, this evidently was a trick used at the wildlife parks to stop them infiltrating the enclosures.?

18 Sep, 2009

If you cannot trap them a farmer might let you have one?

18 Sep, 2009

I appreciate the advice guys, but i REALLY cant string up dead foxes in my garden

18 Sep, 2009

foxes have moved in to the towns and cities, because they have discoverd an easy sorse of food, you are lucky it is not grisles' why not get togather with other people in your arear (they must finde it a newsense as well) and make shore that there is no food were they can get at it, they will not stay were there is no food, and that way the little darlings do not get hurt,

18 Sep, 2009

AHH the neighbours, now theres sommit, ive not long moved to this area, i come from the countryside where foxes live and act as foxes, i guess my nieghbours have grown used to this pest, ( as i write this i can hear the little darlings screaming outside my window ) some misguided people even feed them, others like myself have asked for help and received none, and are taking steps themselves to deter the animals from there property ( prob why there targeting me , as im a newbi and a easy target with no , as yet defences) by the way, if it was bears not foxes, steps would be taken by those in authority to remove them, full stop ! ( i know this to be fact as i lived in canada for a while , and they would be trapped and removed to another area , but of course that a whole different ball game ) I have taken the steps that is suggested to keep my garden clear, unfortunatley, the foxes havent read the rules !!!

hang on a minuate they were there befor you! they should be able to come on hear and conplain about people moveing in and puting nasty stuff down on there land" Wood57's answer was a good one if you smelt or in other words knew that a tiger was marking a boundry and you had crossed the line wouldent you B off, food is a big draw and the people that incourage them have not had the pleasure of the country as you have ,to them it is the country coming to them, the only thing I can surgest is go on google and ask for forfoxolutions there are a number of things" take your pick. another site is primrose london, the fox things are dearer but there are other things to interest gardeners especaly small gardens sutch as strawberry barrel planter that looks good at £24.95 and a victorian potato planter reduced to £17.95, the only thing I can surjest is get a job permant nights and sleep when they do, good luck we are all with you.

19 Sep, 2009

OH cliffo, I wondered how long it would be before some body got on there soap box " there were there before you " blah blah blah, go take a reality check...i dont care if people havnt had the pleasure of the countryside as i have, i havent stopped them !!!..perm nights to accomadate the foxes habits!!!!, i really thought this was a site i could get some sensible suggestions from, tigers and boundarys, me running off?? What are you on??

19 Sep, 2009

yes there was humer in the form of leg pulling but there was some searious advice as well and the tiger though may be porly explained by me realy dose work I know it dose with cats because I have tryed it,and as for the countryside bit townes do not understand the country and do not usualy like it ,you must know that most city kids think milk comes from cartens, lighten up ,people on hear like a laugh but do not extract the michel including me,

I give up !!!

I can see your at abyss Tomo, alright my idea of Big Cat poo was one idea not ideal i must admit, hanging up dead foxes, not really, higher fence they jump over them, electric fence to dodgy for kids and elderly neighbours?-compensation claims.I think the best thing is, if there's no food around, they usually don't cause that many problems, and only frequent when passing, with the odd calling card. The council is the next step. JIM

19 Sep, 2009

I know what your saying Jim, but it aint the odd fox, if you came to my place this eve i would gaurentee you saw foxes, and that goes for every eve unless it peeing down, the odd person that leaves out food for them tends to be the local idiots or loners, who dont have many hours invested in there gardens. I have tried the council, they say they dont have a service for that, just advice on there web page, that, i am acting on by ordering more potent deterraint sprays from specialised companys ( kinda like the hung up fox but without basil dangling there , just his scent ect) ive also ordered spike strips for my fences and walls. I agree there nice to see, but in there own enviroment, if it was rats, people would say " stamp on them ect ".. to me, the urban fox is no different, its vermin, just like rats, mice, mole, seagulls, pigeons and the BNP !

Silent Roar Lion Dung.....NO I am NOT kidding...£8.80 a bag and if you go to
the following site - you can read about it. They do the same in Canada for fox and deer that come into gardens and destroy trees and vegetation in the winter especially apparently and despite no tigers in rural Canada - it still works....LOL It just MIGHT be worth a try

19 Sep, 2009

OMG Cliffo....I have just re-read the comments and I didn't realise I had trod on your toes ...honest! I just have a son in Calgary who has had to use this stuff and tells me it works!!! OOPS..sorry!

19 Sep, 2009

alzheimer rather than tred on my toes you backed me up,up until you spoke up I think that our mate tomo6314 thought that I was just taking the mickie, thank you,

19 Sep, 2009

PHEW...for that relief - much thanks!!!
Hope it works for him....foxes in the wrong place can play havoc right enough. Cheers Cliffo.

19 Sep, 2009

To be honest Cliffo, I didnt realise exactly what you we getting at, all you put was something along the lines of lion, tiger crap followed by some zoo, to be honest i thought you were getting at one of the other comments that mentioned something abt if it was a tiger it would be removed, i didnt think you were taking the p#ss, forgive the pun, but i just thought you were poo, pooing my situation, and if you read back thru i even ask you to explain exactly what you ment by the comment as i know txt and type can be taken out of context if you cant figure out have it was ment

19 Sep, 2009

Just read Tomo that the councils will not act unless a danger to public health is proved, this is typical council[crap] budgets and all that drose,i suppose fox crap everywhere is not a danger, especially to toddlers playing in the garden or local park, haven't we just seen what pet crap can do,with the outbreak of e-coli at this wildlife park and the need to shut several others,i suppose the council would then say foxes don't carry these diseases.I remember a case not so long ago when a baby laying in her cot in the garden was bitten by a fox,i suppose the council would say again public health was not at risk???

19 Sep, 2009

Well the red tape is alway there woody, the council says they have not duty to act, unless its dead, they got a hot line for that if you find one stiff ! Not sure abt e-coli, but they do carry all the health dangers of dogs, esp mange, worms, tics fleas and so on, think ecoli affects sheep and the like, but then again , the speed the authorities work at, we would be on to another health scare by then

19 Sep, 2009

I don't know if foxes are included but I think it was made ileagle to let dogs loose were children played because that dog muck can send children blind, and isent haveing to pick up your dogs mess stemed from that, by the way tomo I was not the one that mentioned it first or spoke of a zoo, you asked that person what he ment and I tryed in my humble way to explain as I know it sounds daft.

19 Sep, 2009

Sorry Cliff, this threads been rumblin on for so many questions and answers now im for getting who said wot lol, anyway, i get the lion poo thing now and of course it sounds logical, and its next on the agenda if the scoot spray fails,
