Could anyone tell me the name of this beautiful perennial flowering now with papery bracts of pink, lavender or purple?

A super late summer flowering plant, the stems are around 2ft high and it looks great in the middle of the border.

It looks very much like a salvia Janey.

Janey, this might be cheeky of me, but you could do worse than ask Bertiefox, who's been marvellous at identifying mine. Hope he doesn't mind me suggesting that!

Hi Janey,
Thanks for the message, but I'm no expert on salvias.
Does this picture look rather like it:

Otherwise there is the salvia 'Pink Delight'.
Superb plant by the look of it.

Wyeboy, there are so many different types...in my own small garden I have at least 4, 2 I use for cooking and 2 ornamentals.....

Thanks Bertie..... I shall have a look....:o)

Fraid not Bertie.......I've a feeling the leaves are too soft for the Sage family.

Janey, a rose by any other name eh. You've started me looking at all the lovely salvias, now I want lots! Mookins I think you're right it used to be called clary didn't it? but I think it's biennial rather than perennial. The only others similar were a nemerosa rosenwein and the pratensis that Bertiefox mentioned. They are all lovely plants. I dont have any salvia in my garden now :-( but will next summer:-)) If you do get a definite i.d. let me know, it's gorgeous:-)

Yes! Bertie and Mookins your right....Salvia Horminium - PINK SUNDAE! Very different to Pink Delight which is the one I looked at. Thanks both very much, definitely having it for next Summer, the purple one is stunning too.

There you are Bornagain, it is lovely isn't it, I'll be writing a new blog later with the purple one included so have a look.....:o)

I'll certainly look out for your blog Janey, I can remember the first time I saw salvia turkestanica, it suddenly appeared one year in every open garden I visited! That's when I discovered there were fashions in gardening :-) Are they easy to grow from seed Mookins?

I to love salvias, Salvia 'Black and Blue' Salvia Memorosa are two lovely ones.
