I have a pond plant , name unknown , its about 2` tall with purple flowers ( astillbe type ) would this be the right time of year to split it ?
No photo i`m afraid temp. out of action

The time to divide most things is late winter into spring. But I don't know your plant.

Water mint is not that tall. More likely to be purple loosestrife (lythrum salicaria) which can be split in autumn or spring
