Hi GoYers could someone tell me when do i prune Lavender,is it after it stops flowering and how low do i cut it down,Many Thanks!!!!

Personally, I leave it over the winter because I find the birds are keen on the seeds and then trim it back to leave a bud or two on last year's stems. It isn't a good idea to cut back into the old wood.

Recommendation is to shear them over once the flowers are more or less gone - clip no more than an inch or so of the leaves all over.

Being an old-fashioned eccentric - I use the heads and pop them into little sachets to keep the moths out of the closets etc !!!! That automatically prunes the plants a bit - then I can prune them a bit more after the winter if they are looking weary.when I do the spring-clean! The birds get the contents of the previous year's sachets! Not sure there is much good in them but they disappear anyway! The lavender plants seem to thrive too!

I envy you your lavender Mobee, My friend makes lavender bottles and I would have liked to try that this year....

I cut mine down to within a few cm of the old growth after it has finished flowering. It works for me.

Thank You Goldie i`v always loved Lavender i use it at bath time i hang it under the hot tap and get the aroma very relaxing love the idea of the bottles:~))))
