can I move a sambucus nigra now

It would be much better to wait until your Sambucus is dormant, in late autumn or early winter...as long as the ground isn't frozen!

Prepare the planting hole before digging round the shrub, then dig it out with as much of the rootball as possible. You'll have to water it well for its first year in the new position.
