Has any one grown a Magnolia successfully in a container?

I read that Magnolia Stellata was a choice but I dont want to to go ahead and plant the poor tree to find a few months down the line I've killed it!

stellata will be the only one suitable for a container - you will need to repot into larger containers as it grows. It is slow growing and deciduous, and usually flowers in its first season.
