Can I plant forsythia near wall?

I have a fairly large retaining wall and a small patch of grass in front of it (about 4 sloped feet). Can I plant a forsythia shrub next to the wall or will the roots ruin my wall?
Any help would really be appreciated. :)

I don't think that Forsythias have particularly long roots - I can't see one ruining a wall. They are often planted near people's front gates, aren't they.
