I have two clematis, they are all browsn at the bottom, green a top with purple flowers, is this dying off? Do i cut it back to the ground? Or just leave it?

I don't suppose you know what variety of Clematis they are? If they started flowering early July and are still going, its likely they're in the viticella group. These should be pruned down to about 8 or 10 inches, or 2 buds, from the ground in midwinter, or by mid February at latest, otherwise you do get lots of green and flowers at the top and plenty of bare stems towards the base.
