is it a santan ? bcoz very similar of our santan here in th phils.

Junna - although the flowers look similar, it is a viburnum, not a santan. I suspect the leaves look very different; this one sheds its foliage in winter and has small, dark green, ovoid leaves with a toothed margin

Very jealous. Mine has flowered reliably for years but this year only a few down at the bottom. And my neighbour's is the same. She has virtually nothing. Very healthy big shrubs but no flowers this year. Any suggestions.

Is it possible that sparrows are pecking off the budding blossoms ?
That has happened to some on my "Dawn" and to nearly all of the buds on this year's Burkwoodii ...
I watched the sparrows doing the pecking !!

Thanks for that. They say that sparrows are on the decline but not in my area. We have so many and yes, that is one of their favourite bushes. I thought it might be weather, but sparrows makes perfect sense.

LOTS of sparrows in my garden ... about 17 sparrows and one wood pigeon in a snow photo on GoY taken in my back garden some weeks back. [ 11th Feb. 2012 ].

BUT the sparrows haven't pecked at the current blossoms on my "snowball" trees ...
...and I'm wondering if those blossoms are less attractive to the sparrows ... The snowballs don't have the attractive scent of the other two varieties.

By the way, my Burkwoodii has just a few lovely blossoms towards the base ... and that is the part which is behind the low slat fencing of my dog run, and the sparrows can't reach there ...

Mine has gone beserk this year - it's still flowering now (as it still feels like winter here)
