Thanks, Wagger :o)

It's a bit shorter than that, I think, Tt. It seems happy in the shade.

This is lovely, Spritz. I will have to try for it.

This is one to look out for.Is it long lived?

6 Jul, 2009

Mine is only two years old, so I don't know! Ask me again in 10 years' time! lol.

mine are about 18" tall and are short lived 3-4yrs but they do seed very freely. they compost easily too. are they a campanula, I'd been told they were a member of the comfrey family?
lovely photo non the less.

Just checked in my RHS book, Sbg - definitely Campanula family.

Thank goodness - I hate comfrey! I checked that, too - it's a Borage family member.
(I have a running battle with Symphytum in my garden...I inherited LOADS of it!)

10 Jul, 2009

I have a root of comfrey that I keep in check which I inherited from my parents .... what is it for, anyway.

10 Jul, 2009

The comfrey? It makes excellent compost, or plant food if you plonk leaves in a bucket of water, weight them down and leave them. The water will smell awful, but the liquid (diluted) is really, really good for plants!

thats why i thought comfry, symphytum /symphandra at this time of night its all greek to me. [should that be latin!!!!!]

10 Jul, 2009

I can't blame you, Sbg, you must be almost brain-dead!

10 Jul, 2009

Thanks Spritz - you've jogged my memory - I remember my Dad doing exactly what you've just said - I feel so sad that I cant remember all the things my Dad did :-(( He did a similar thing with stinging nettles too. I'm going to reap some comfrey tomorrow :-))

10 Jul, 2009

Yes, I was going to add that, but I didn't know if you have any??

10 Jul, 2009

Yes Spritz, lots of 'stingers' here, they're looking a bit tired now though but dont know when its safe to chop them down - from the butterflies point of view.

11 Jul, 2009

Difficult, as I understand that butterflies sometimes lay another set of eggs.

Bb would know!

11 Jul, 2009

I thought BB would know too. I'll try and catch him later :-)
I've seen lots of meadow butterflies but not many of the colourful ones yet - thought the buddleias would be bringing them out by now .

I haven't seen a Red Admiral yet, and only one Peacock. I think they are later, I seem to remember from last year.

11 Jul, 2009

I think you're right, this recent wet weather won't help will it.
