Schefflera actinophylla - Umbrella Tree, Octopus Tree Flowering

Schefflera actinophylla - Umbrella Tree, Octopus Tree Flowering (Schefflera actinophylla - Umbrella Tree, Octopus Tree)

Umbrella tree taken from quite a distance. Even though, it's very tall it's dwarfed by the very tall Eucalyptus trees. Photo taken Mar. 15, 2012.

They are just starting to be seen in the bay area. The climate is changing. Back in the 70's I couldn't get them to survive a winter.
Never been lucky enough to see one in flower.

I've seen large ones in the SF Bay for many years. However, with this being said...they can be frozen back every ten years...they typically come back very quickly, though. There's some large ones in San Leandro in front of bank which survived the 1990 freeze with none or minimal damage.
