Thanks all, we really do not have room to grow them in the ground, hence growing them in pots...

Oh brilliant , we had a new red one last autumn I never would have thought of making it into a standard it will be so much easier to pick the fruit !

My father had a yellow one Angela , the fruit was delicious ,big plump, sweet and juicy I had forgotten how good they were :o)

Last year Amy we had a lot of fruit from our normal gooseberry (grown in a pot!!) ate them off the plant they were so sweet. These are new strains less disease, so they say?
HB it takes up less room that way, Janey we love gooseberry fool.

We use Hammerite, but we get a lot of wet during the winter and it never lasts longer than a year, unfortunately.
