Yes Sticki, semi-permeable down under the gravel...makes all the difference. There will be couch grass roots running riot under there! Mind you, having said that, if there are, they will probably get through eventually, but then I can just spray them as they show.

Hmm....I suppose most Quarries probably sell what is local or fairly local? We tend to be offered Balmullo chippings (terracotta coloured), from Fife, or river pebbles, which seem to be fairly ubiquitous, but if you want gravel I should go to your local quarry and see what they have available. They are much better than builders' merchants and garden centres....cheaper and better service I find.
