Lotus berthelotti

meanie

By Meanie

Lotus berthelotti (Lotus berthelotii (Parrot's bill))

These are my one "must have" annual. Great in hanging baskets.
I have three different colours this year - this is the "orange" one that I have every year. The others are red and yellow.

I love these I had the gold one in a basket last year cannot find it this year.

Far too tender for us really!
But cheap enough to buy, and I do like the exotic look of them.
My yellow one is in bud, and I'm looking forward to that.
On the subject of yellow, my yellow Penstemon looks close to opening!

Mine are no where near yet.

Of the five that I have, the P. hetrophylus is in full bloom, the yellow one almost there, with the other three nowhere near.....

Best places to get them around here are the small independent nurseries who provide fully planted hanging baskets.

Meanie:

Well, that looks very familiar! Of course, this plant grows wild here...and it's not an annual here in San Diego. lol! :>)

It's considered to be extinct in the wild in it's "homeland" of the Canary Islands Delonix.

Meanie:

Luckily, it's widely grown and is available at every nursery here for a very inexpensive price. Most plants native to the Canary Islands grow well and, or naturalize here in California. We're very lucky!
