I can never get this to grow, what is the secret?

Yes Janey, mine is flowering too...bit earlier this year...because it thinks it has been winter since June!

Very pretty and very welcome this time of the year;0)

Have never been able to grow these.....

DD, do you have Coronilla Valentina subsp. Glauca Citrina? Because it would make a cracking alternative, and down there it would surely thrive. Mine is flowering away like mad at the front door and the scent on a day like today, when it's warm enough to smell it.....it's just like scented narcissi! Really lovely! AND evergreen!

A lovely pic. Janey , I'm afraid I have a berberis growing in front of mine that has grown up to cover it , I don't want to cut the berberis down , it looks as if I may have to buy another Jasmine !

They root really easily from cuttings Amy.

Do they Karen ,thanks ! I wonder if I can persuade my OH to go behind the prickly Berberis to get a piece for me ..LOL...

LOL... I'll get him onto it Karen , you can't creep up behind the bush because it's on a wall , actually there are some pieces of Jasmine that manage to poke their way through , I'll have a closer look at it :o)

:)) Sure you'll get something! I only know because I accidentally broke a bit a couple of months ago, stuck it in a pot in the greenhouse and it's growing already.

Sticki. this one is planted to face the sun, in a tiny space between the wall and my brick edged little garden, so the soil there is always damp. Like Karen's it seems to get earlier each year flowering!

Ha, ha Karen, I'm thinking the plants must think it's spring now, we have had lovely sunny warm days! All the Polyanthus are out again too.

Thanks Sticki!...:o)

It certainly is Carole, I can see it really well from my kitchen which is good too.

That is strange Dd, maybe it needs the northern winters to flourish???...:o((

I'm going to check the Coronilla out Karen, I like the sound of the scent, and if it grows for you up in Angus, it should do well here.

Thanks Amy, thats a problem when you have two good plants vying for the same space, maybe you could train the Jasmine through the Berberis?

Yes they do Karen, I'll have a look Amy at mine, sometimes the branches have rooted themselves, if so, I'll post one on for you.

Yikes, what happened there, about five more comments popped up! m It seems funny that we're all sat at our computers looking at the same thing....shall have to go though girls, tea-time calls!

thanks janey ~ that could be the problem ~ so little sun.

I hope you find one Janey...it really is lovely! Plant in a sheltered spot and it should be fine.

wow nice yellow!!!

26 Oct, 2011

Lovely Janey...mine is flowering now too, but the flowers seem to be a lot smaller than usual this year......

26 Oct, 2011

They're early aren't they Milky, hope it's not a sign of another bad winter....:o(( I wonder if the flowers are smaller if it's not been pruned? I gave this a good clip early in the spring Milky.

It's a great yellow, perfect for seeing us through the winter here Aleyna.

Wonderful shot, Janey. The flowers are so small on Jasmine and your photo shows them so clearly.

they're so pretty

They are a nice plant to have in the garden over the winter when there is little colour around. I, myself, have never grown it as I only have a balcony. The only permanent plantings I have are 3 Golden Conifers & a variegated Ivy in a hanging basket & some in a big pot with one of the Conifers.

I plant Pansies & Violas for winter colour on the balcony.
