If you choose carefully, such as an iris that will produce somewhere between 8 and 14 buds, the plant will flower for around 2 months. This one started opening on 6 June and it still has 3 buds to go..around another 2/3 weeks. That beats tulips and some daffs hands down! If you choose a rebloomer, come autumn you could find it gives you a further month till first frosts according to some suppliers. I have some rebloomers but they havent matured yet, next year I guess. So I will monitor when they do. I will know when they start cos I always take a picture when first one fully out, but must remember to record when they finish. Plus the fact that choosing dwarfs, medians and tall, you can have irises blooming from March to July and rebloomers (hopefully) for September-ish.

I just checked. My first median flowered 28 April, so 20 irises bloomed from then and will finish at a guess by 10 July or thereabouts. About 10 didnt flower this year. Thats 10/11 weeks...not bad! By the end of this year I will have about 100 varieties of which about 20 will be rebloomers. Roll on next year!!!

Wow tet!

Thanks Clarice. The breeders outdo themselves with the lovely new varieties. They are all after a red one..but guess they will end up with tissue culture, like with the true blue rose from Japan.

Thanks Amy. Must admit Ive been like Simbad..a kid in a sweet shop..when each new one has opened. Some didnt yet, and the new ones bought this year will have me on tenterhooks next spring, camera poised. At my age I cant afford to wish my life away..but finding it a hard wait!!
