Backyard Howea / Kentia palm.

I planted that in 1992 from a 2 gallon pot. Trachycarpus palm with fan leaves? That showed up as a seedling in my backyard around 2000 or so. I moved it when it had like one foot of trunk.
I don't how that seed got to my yard. But its a nice palm now.

For some reason I had in mind they needed just enough water. That slowed things down for year. Same for Aloidendron barberae..It took me a few years to see- they like water and grow much faster. They are not desert plants. A.dichotoma is,but A. barberae is not.

Yes, they love to be wet all the time. I found an old pic of my big Howea from July 2004. It was planted in 2004 so it’s been in the ground for just about 18 years.

Still,I have tallest Howea from here to San Jose!.. I guess.
Its the same story as you know Andy,bay area people just think of all palms as needing little water. I did too! OR- when a frost kills the fronds,they think the whole plant is dead and cut it down. Not the same plant culture up here. It's even divided by north bay and south bay "Hortisexuals" as they call it.

Your Howea looks awesome!
My Howea is about the same size as your palm. It was planted from a 5 gallon in 2005. I think it grew very fast because it’s next to the rain spout. Howea species love water!
