Stan,

Your Howea is absolutely beautiful! I know you have a much larger one also, right?

Thank you Penny..this was potted too long before I planted it out. But eventually I think it will add height of more trunk. I actually had to remove fronds or it would be thicker. It was hard to walk around it.

That one Andy is in the back yard. Its harder to see now (for the public) that its just above the roof peak. I was pruning the Podocarpus tree as it wanted the Howea's space- I 'm not allowing that.

That's great to have such beautiful Howeas in your yard up there. I had a large one in Fremont. It grow very fast in the ground and I have it tons of water and fertilizer. I gave it to a Palm Society Member in San Francisco back 1998. It unfortunately died several years after he had it. I don't think it liked the transition from the warm Mission San Jose climate to the Avenues in The City.

I have lots of Howeas. The largest one is around 20' tall and has 7 ft of solid trunk. It grew very fast, I think it was planted back in 2005 from a 5 gallon pot.

107 in Mission San Jose today Andy. Might have been hottest day ever recorded there. San Francisco was 106f. IT'S hottest day ever.
Last I saw for me was 103 and 104 depending on the site.

107 degrees in Mission San Jose is definitely not the hottest temps recorded there. I remember hotter days when I lived there, I think 113 or 114 degrees is the hottest temp recorded there. I know the 106 degree temp in San Francisco was the hottest day ever recorded. That's very HOT!

It was 103 or 104 degrees here where I live; however, some places just not too far inland have been 111 or 112 degrees the last two or three days. I hate this heat! Yuck! At least by Sunday the temps will cool down a little; however, with a lot more humidity from Tropical Storm Lidia's remnant moisture.
