As usual with giants...its the only plant in the yard. A lesson on how to grow anything huge.
But,I will never be able to do that,so enjoy anything healthy and growing.

I guess it's better than not having any plants or trees at all. I can't imagine a yard without plants!

Merry Christmas to you and yours Stan and a Happy New Year in 2018 .
Wow I never thought Poinsettia grew that tall.

Thank you Penny. Same to you!

Andy- check this out. Our coldest night of the year 34f ( predicted) and follow Mission blvd and how night temps rise to 38 at Stevenson,39 at Bruce Ave. and keeps going until its low 40's in Mission San Jose and up in the hills. Thats equal to the Oakland Palmetum by Lake Merrit and near as warm as San Francisco' and 47,49f warmest by the Embarcadero.

Its the largest I've seen here Penny. I know that in Funchal- a favorite British vacation or holiday as you call it,they can be small tree's. They even naturalize along the roads.

Stan,

I'll check it out. Yesterday was the last day of the low to mid 70's. Today was cooler, only mid-60's. Mid-70's are forecasted for Christmas Day, though.

I've seen Poinsettia this large and larger here in San Diego. I've seen them larger there, also. I still always remember the big 25 to 30' Poinsettia at Sears at Southland...it was the largest I've ever seen in the SF Bay Area. Probably the tallest one I have ever seen.

57-60F and sunny as far as the eye can see. It did rain the other night..so that helps stretch out the water needs.
I think I will move some things around. Potted plants. What's in ground can handle 34F more or less.

The Pandanus and the P.obtusa can go between the Ruby Ficus and the studio..a bit of overhead frost protection and no big move to undo. If I do.

Actually, the forecast here has been changed. It appears it will be in the upper 60's here for Christmas. This morning it was cold, the low was 45 degrees. We had a few little showers last night (which is good) not enough to make the soil wet, though.

I got potted Plumeria cuttings,Papaya seeds ( Solo) and the Vetchia palms indoors on the window sill. All my other tenders are up to 34f outside. I am broken of the Adenium hassle.
Last year we went to new years eve I think it was, Andy without a frost- then wham,32f and banana's and brugs and Iochroma..Wigandia...all nipped.
Same story this year so far..no frost yet.

My sister has got one in her garden she said it makes a lovely bush Stan
.

Thats great for the UK. Indoors or out.

22 Dec, 2017

Yes it is I ve bought one to try its out side I hope any frost dont kill it.

Protect this its first winter Penney. It does have the great ability once mature to spout from being killed back to the base. I think its an adaption to fire that it also uses for cold. So,a 2 year old plant or more in the garden will be much more tenacious then a hot house plants first winter.
I would recommend you don't put it out until spring. It might drop all leaves as it comes from the wet/dry forests of Mexico.
But when you warm- put it out and place up against a house wall. They seem to do best there...almost never see one not against the house around here.

You just need to make sure there's not a light on it during the night or it won't flower.

Stan,

How cold was it there this morning? My aunt who lives not to far from you said it was around freezing there this morning.

Thank you Stan for all those tips .
