Wild Teasels..Dipsacus Fullonum.

Wild Teasels..Dipsacus Fullonum. (Dipsacus fullonum (Teasel))

Photographic shot of Teasels in a field. There is an architectural beauty to this common wild plant. My local town was built on the industry of cloth making, and Teasel heads were dried, carded and used to raise the nap on wool in a bygone era.

I have a real photographic eye and teasels are great to capture through a lens Bloomer..The history of the use of these in combing out the nap on cloth is part of our local towns past. We still have Drying mills here where the teasels used to be stored in holes in the outer walls to dry out before they were used on cloth. On Wikipedia it also says that they are known to have healing medicinal qualities. Gold Finches love them as well of course. Nature truly does provide.. \0/x

I grew teasels in my woodland garden once and they grew like trees with stems just as thick!Everything else was swamped by them! Needless to say ( although the gold finches love them) I didn't grow them again!

Thank you Pam, your photos were really lovely covered in frost like that! I have never grown these Rose, and saw these in a local field where I walk my dog, but they certainly photograph well..\0/x
