Garden today

Janey

By Janey

Garden today (Cupressus macrocarpa (Monterey Cypress))

Just before the downpour, I managed to clip these Goldcrest conifers, the taller one still has a dead patch, but all in all I'm quite pleased with the shapes....:o))

Thank you for such lovely comments....:)). The Walls are very old and real snail hiders, they slide from one part to another, babies following on behind, this wet weather keeps them happy! At the front on the left is a honeysuckle, another trailer from next door, but a real beauty, White and lemon coloured with a heavenly scent. Next to that is the remains of clematis Montana, which the winter of 2010 claimed.....so far I haven't found time to clip it all out, and it is used by a couple of spring clematis to climb up, there's always a use for everything isn't there...:))

Your garden is really lovely Janey. Is this wall part of an old estate garden? I have just planted a small flowering clematis on the fence at the end of the back garden next to the compost bin.

Thanks Lindak...:)). The wall you see here, runs up the backs of other cottages round the corner from us. The cottage has had lots of uses, a Blacksmiths, a shop, and then a scouts meeting place...so it's seen some goings on in it's time. To the right of us is the village church, but it hasn't any connection only when we were renovating, we had to pay a tax to the church which had been instigated a couple of centuries ago. The church itself dates from the 1200s.
The small flowering clematis are my faves, which one did you get?

A small pinky white one....Alpina Willy.

Ah, I have this too Linda...love it! It's about finished here, but there are some pics in my photos...last year I think....it's time I gave mine a good prune.....

You are so lucky to have the lovely wall...and all it's historical connections. Our whole country is not yet 200 years old! (145 on July 1st) got a chuckle out of the (century or two) old law coming back to bite! How far back does your garden area go, Janey?

Hi Lori, yes I bet it does sound strange....The cottage is late Georgian, there are lots of old heavy beams in the main living area. The garden is long and narrow, about 30-40 metres I would think, this wall runs the full length, not at the same height though, wall across the back, fence halfway down the right side, and then high stone wall the rest. There are two different climates Lori, for each side, and in the winter, cold and damp for all, as the sun doesn't rise above the stone wall, it's a snails paradise....lol!

Old houses and cottages have that special feel to them and lots of character too. We have a bungalow now but when we lived down the road in the lodge built in 1795 it had so much character and things like mullien windows and we miss all that.

Urgggg.... snails. How do you manage?

17 May, 2012

Yes I know what you mean Linda, the thing with newer places though, they're so much lighter...and weather like we've been having, I would love nice big windows!....still there's for and against with everything isn't there...:))

Ha ha Lori....pick them off, put pellets down.....we'd have made a bomb if we were French...mmmm nice with garlic and herbs...lol!
