Chorisia speciosa - Floss Silk Tree Flowers

Chorisia speciosa - Floss Silk Tree Flowers (Chorisia speciosa - Floss Silk Tree)

A close up of the Floss Silk tree's flowers at the main library on Coronado Island. This tree can have pink, burgundy, red, or white flowers...it's a distant relative of the Hibiscus. Photo taken Oct. 8, 2010.

Meanie:

It's another very common tree here. It's extremely drought tolerant.
I think the variety 'Los Angeles Beauty' (which has wine red flowers) is my favorite grafted Silk Tree.

Tugbrethil:

Thanks! Do they start blooming in Phoenix in August? or earlier?

11 Oct, 2010

Usually sometime in October, sometimes as late as November. No idea what makes the difference.

Tugbrethil:

I know it luxuriates in heat...however, maybe it too hot for them to bloom there in August?

That's my suspicion, but no one believes it.

Tugbrethil:

Of course, there could be some other factor.
