Carpenteria california - 2014

Carpenteria california - 2014 (Carpenteria californica)

Sun-loving American shrub for full sun. Gets to six feet as a bush, but taller as a wall shrub. I've had this against a south-facing wall for nearly twenty years; one winter it was covered in icicles for a week, but was none the worse for it.

Andrew, please tell me if this would tolerate fairly dry soil as I may buy one to hide some south-facing fence. The garden behind said fence has a Plum tree and a Berberis, both giving some shade to my garden in the summer, hence the soil rarely gets damp!

Shirley - mine is planted against the front of the house (south facing) so the soil there is fairly dry. I'd make sure it gets watered until it gets established but then it should be able to look after itself. As its name suggests, it comes from California so can cope with dry conditions there.

Thanks Andrew ... adverts for them have appeared on the side of the screen ... Crocus and Burncoose so I shall investigate both.
