mine looks a bit weary jacque, leaves not perked up like yours, maybe it will improve when spring comes and a bit of feed

I love Hollyhocks..have never really grown them....My mother had a superstition about them that stuck with me, not that it would make any difference now, as my girls have married except one...lol...but she said she would not grow them, because if you had HollyHocks in your garden your daughters would never marry. Anyone ever heard that one before?

Yours sound good PP i wonder what colours theyl b? :) Im sure yours will be ok San once weather warms up :) Iv never heard of that b4 CatF &like u say it cant be true :)

Gosh you're getting well organised for the year ahead Jacque. There were lots of black ones for sale at our local GC's last year, but I'm not really sure about black flowers, although would be nice against white or lemon. We planted a lot of seed in Sep & they were good plants up until the frosts. A bit like Sanbaz's - plenty of time though yet for young shoots when the spring comes.

5 Feb, 2010

im sure your right jacque, the leaves wilted and dropped today but can see another leaf coming through, so finers crossed :o))

5 Feb, 2010

I had one of these Jacque - the flowers were beautiful, but the plant was near a lot of other hollyhocks and must have cross pollinated because now we don't have a black one, but we do get a deep maroon flowering one.

7 Feb, 2010

That will look gorgeous when it flowers Jacque. :o)

7 Feb, 2010

Its beautiful Jacque....I lost mine (rust) 3 years in a row, so i have stopped trying...:>)

7 Feb, 2010

it gets in the soil motinot, if you see the slightest bit starting them remove any infected leaf and dont leave them on the groung or that gets infected to, i was lucky last year didnt get any, so hope for the same this year

I did have one a few years ago it got quite a few comments! I grew it from a mixture of seeds that were a large packet called Claud Monets Garden they were a present.
