Acidanthera

Acidanthera (Acidanthera murieliae (Peacock orchid))

I planted my corms in pots this year, which worked better, as some have flowered.

Out of 25 corms, I managed to get 6 flowering stems! Not good, but better than last year!

Would like to try that one, I like a challenge.......

Dd, I saw pots of them ALL with buds or flowers on at a good Nursery last week, and I asked how they got them to flower - I was told that as soon as the first green shoots appear, they water them copiously, and keep on doing that - it must work!

I shall buy some more corms this autumn and have another go! (They need to be planted in the spring, though)

They are otherwise known as Gladiolus callianthus.

They have a fantastic scent too.
They seem to be a bit of a sod to get to flower though - I'll try lots of water next year.

They aren't hardy, either! :-((

No, Morgana, they belong in the Gladiolus group. Common names are deceptive, aren't they!

Yes, so will I. I do like these - I still call them Acidanthera, but they have another name now. (latin)
